We’ve got a very short deadline this week, between Gameweeks 5 and 6. As such, we’re rolling a brief Gameweek 5 review and Gameweek 6 preview into one. Exciting!
Do as I say, not as I do…
Over-management or excessive management is a killer in FPL. Sometimes it is better just to do nothing. If only I had told myself this before hitting Reece James out for Cucurella.
It was such a bad idea because I now can’t afford James and I’m praying for James to fall in price. My other transfers didn’t really work out – Perisic did nothing and might get rested this weekend after playing 90 mins, and Martin Oodegaard went off injured after failing to score any of his many opportunities.

Match by Match Gameweek 5 Review
City Vs Forest
Haaland is possibly our permanent captain for the season. Foden definitely the most nailed on 8.0. But rotation is inevitable at some point. Cancelo scored a low xG shot – his attacking returns have been minimal all season, so let’s not bank on any more just yet.
Liverpool Vs Newcastle
Isak is good. Seems like Wilson will struggle to get that place back. I don’t mind the switch if you have him. Isak might not have been picked up in your draft league either, so look into that.
Liverpool remain defensively unconvincing. Robbo should be on the chopping block for you. Trent can stay because of his double digit potential and great xGI. Diaz looked good but we didn’t see them play like that with Nunez on pitch. He had a great chance, but missed – he could be one that you sell, as he’s not delivering great value. Salah still worth it at the moment, but questions starting in my mind.
Arsenal vs. Villa
Arsenal were excellent again. The usual suspects of Jesus and Martinelli continue to offer great value. A little worrying that Odergaard went off injured. We will have to monitor that. Villa were crap. Again. Hard avoid until Gerrard gets fired.
Spurs vs. West Ham
Pretty lacklustre from Spurs. Perisic still looks okay for the money and so does Kulusevski, but Son is not at his best and Kane just doesn’t offer the value that Haaland does.
West Ham should have won this game. Plenty of chances but they couldn’t put any away. The data says they should have scored another so we could look at going there, but I’m still avoiding until they have a bit more confidence.
Bournemouth vs. Wolves
Turns out Bournemouth are still terrible without Scott Parker. Avoid them all.
The performance from Wolves was pinnacle Wolves. Loads of chances and couldn’t convert any of them. I’m not interested apart from in FPL Draft, where Jimenez is probably available and you might not have 3 starting strikers.
Chelsea vs. Southampton
Chelsea continue to disappoint going forward and aren’t that valuable at the back either. Perhaps they’ll be better when more settled. Sterling could emerge as an option, so is one to watch.
Saints 4.5 mid Romeo Lavia scored, but don’t expect many more like that from him. Very hard to pull off. He might also be injured. Armstrong and Adams are okay to pick up in Draft.
Fulham vs. Brighton
Mitrovic is smashing it. I see no reason not to get him if you can. Fulham’s xG was very low though, so he probably was a bit lucky. No other options (except Pereira as an enabler, if you don’t have him already).
Brighton should have had more from this game. Again they created few but high quality opportunities. The quantity still makes me nervous, but Gross and Trossard look good. Estupunian a possibly exciting option at 4.5.
Palace vs. Leeds
Palace defence is a bit lacklustre. Zaha is good.
Leeds disappointed a lot of us but they were okay. Rodrigo is out for a long time so has to leave your team.
United vs. Leicester
United have looked shockingly competent for three games in a row now. Bruno played right wing in this game, and looked great, but with Antony coming in that probably won’t last. Two clean sheets in a row, but Arsenal next, so hold fire on any of their cheap defensive options.
Leicester are in the pits. Rodgers is trying to do a Parker and get himself fired. Hard avoid for all their players.

Only Newcastle really interest me here. The rest of the teams aren’t very good FPL wise, apart from Leeds. For Leeds, we don’t know how they will look without Rodrigo.
Best Captains
As I said, Haaland is our permanent captain. I can’t see past that right now.
Should I Buy?
Martinelli – Yes. He’s the best midfielder for less than 10 million right now.
Mitro – Why not? It doesn’t seem like he’s going off the boil any time soon.
Firmino – No. Nunez is back from his ban, so don’t know that he plays 90 or even at all.
Reece James – Wait to hear the injury news, but sure.
Should I sell?
Danny Ward – Get rid of him. He’s terrible
Robbo – Yes. Pool defence is not good right now.
Reece James – No. Looks like he will be fine for the weekend.
My Moves
I’m probably moving a goalkeeper to Pope. Goodbye and good riddance to Danny Ward at last.
