FPL gameweek 27 transfer tips

FPL Gameweek 27 Transfer Tips

Welcome, one and all, to your second – and indeed final – slice of FPL Gameweek 27 preview goodness.

Your old pal Joe’s at the helm for this one, but do go and check out James’s Blank Gameweek 31 special – I won’t be jealous. If you want to finish the trilogy, you could even read my fixtures piece for the week too.

You’ve got better things to do than spend all your time reading Full 90 FPL content, you say?

Pah! I don’t believe you!

Anyway – without further ado, here are your transfer tips for Gameweek 27.

Gameweek 27 Transfer Tips – Should I Buy?

You know the drill. I look down the list of the most-bought players for this gameweek, then say why they’re all stupid moves and everyone except me is an idiot.

(I kid, I kid – these are indeed the most-bought players ahead of Gameweek 27, but my takes are meted out with no judgement attached… except to the actual players, that is, who are literally being judged).

  • Joao Pedro – No, not unless you’re planning to move him out again very quickly indeed. He’s scored lots of points, fair play to him, but they were against Leeds, Wolves, West Ham, and Palace – four of the worst teams in the league (including Palace, at that time) – plus Brentford at home. He gets one more great matchup, home to Burnley, then his fixtures flip big-time – Arsenal, Villa, Newcastle, Everton, Man City, and Man U. Not good!
  • Palmer – No, for the same reasons as JP. In both cases, let’s not overreact to players racking up a load of points in incredible fixtures – that’s what they were supposed to do!
  • Semenyo – Yes. He continues to be nailed, and brilliant. I like his fixtures right up until the blank too, and think the upside is easily high enough to justify bringing him in even if you’re going to bin him again in GW 31
  • Hill – Yes. I really want him for myself. He’s absolutely incredible value at only 4.0. He plays every minute, gets attacking returns, gets DefCons, and has great fixtures. What more could you ask for?
  • Virgil – No. As noted in my fixtures piece, I don’t really trust Liverpool to clean against anyone, and certainly not enough to justify spending 5.9 on Big Virg. I’d still prefer an Arsenal double-up, plus Guehi or even Hill
  • Thiago – Maybe, for the fixtures and the upside. I wouldn’t though – he’s far too inconsistent
  • Rogers – Yes. I know he’s outperforming his stats, but he always does that, and Leeds, Wolves, Chelsea (not a good defence), and West Ham in his next five games is a very nice run indeed
  • Bruno – Yes. Blanking against West Ham is annoying to say the least, but after three double-digit returns in his previous four games, you can’t really complain too much
  • Szoboslai – No. I know he’s got good fixtures, but he’s blanked in plenty of other good fixtures so far this season (Burnley, Leeds, Spurs, Sunderland home, West Ham, Burnley again, etc.). He’s also too expensive to just cross your fingers and hope – I’d rather have Sarr for less money, even with the blank in a few weeks, or just save tons of money and get the super-reliable Anderson
  • Rayan – Maybe. With returns in each of his first three games, he’s certainly off to a great start! Frankly it’s far too early for me to actually recommend him, but he’s a fun, cheap gamble for Bournemouth’s nice little fixture run
  • Mbeumo – Yes. Consistent, obviously an excellent player, and his fixtures are fine
  • Guehi – Yes. City are the most reliable non-Arsenal defence, and he’s the pick of the bunch for them
  • Ekitike – Maybe. He’s obviously not a ‘bad’ pick, since he’s a quality player, has nice fixtures, plays for a good team, and continues to have excellent underlying numbers despite lacklustre returns. He’s also very expensive though, and if you’re spending 8.9 on a forward… you kinda want to see some actual goals, not just Expected Goals!
  • Strand Larsen – Maybe. I actually think he’s a really intriguing option right now. He’s got proven Premier League pedigree, and now gets to play with Sarr, Munoz et al, instead of his rubbish Wolves teammates. Crucially, he’s also only 6.1, so if you pair him with Haaland up top that gives you plenty of money to spend on all those tasty midfield options. Blank Gameweek 31 is obviously an issue, but you’re okay to have 3-4 players sitting that week, as James outlined in his excellent piece on just that subject
  • Chalobah – No. Always no. This continues to be the most confusing popular transfer in the game for me. He’s somehow now up to 23.8%… why?! Chelsea have literally one clean sheet in their last 10, including matchups against Leeds, Wolves, West Ham, and Palace. He does tend to get DefCons… great, so do lots of defenders. And he’s 5.8! I wouldn’t get him if he was 4.8, never mind 5.8! I would take Hill at 4.0, over Chalobah at 5.8, in an absolute heartbeat

Gameweek 27 Transfer Tips – Should I Sell?

Let’s get crazy, and – having looked at the most-bought players – check out the most-sold ones too. It’s a wild idea, but it just might work.

  • Bruno G – Yes. He’s injured for ages
  • Rice – Maybe. His returns obviously aren’t justifying his price right now, when you could get better and more consistent production from Anderson for far less money. I do like Arsenal’s next three fixtures though, so hold him for those if there isn’t an obvious easy move (like switching him to Semenyo)
  • Enzo – No. Not before he plays Burnley at home! Bin him after that, when the fixtures turn
  • Wilson – Maybe. He’s obviously slowed down recently, but those blanks have come in pretty tricky games (potentially discounting Leeds away). I’d just bench him for the Sunderland game, then hold him for the excellent four fixtures after that
  • Cucurella – Maybe. If he’s injured, then yes. If not, hold him for the Burnley game then bin him, à la Enzo
  • Haaland – No… obviously. Under absolutely no circumstances. The end!
  • DCL – Maybe. He’s blanked in three of his last four games, which obviously isn’t great, but those were against Arsenal, Everton, and Fulham – not the best matchups, though admittedly not the worst either. He also plays Villa and City next, which also isn’t great. With all that being said, he’s already scored against City, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Sunderland away this season, so he’s relatively fixture proof. And, there just aren’t really many forwards I like more than DCL at only 5.9
  • Tarkowski – Maybe. Like Rice, he’s definitely not justifying his price right now. He’s still ticking along at over 10 DefCons per game on the season, but Everton are struggling a bit for cleans, and now they play Man U, Newcastle, Arsenal, and Chelsea in their next five. I’d probably just get rid – you can save a ton of money in this spot by moving him to Hill, for example, or even a 4.5, and spend that in the midfield
  • Cash – No. Their next two fixtures are nice, so… even though he’s not great, you probably have to hold him through those. Villa have cleaned in three of their last six in the league, so (assuming he’s not injured) he’s a decent if boring shout
  • Thiago – Maybe… but there just aren’t that many options I like more. You could move him to Bowen, I suppose, or gamble on Strand Larsen. As noted, I wouldn’t get JP right now. I’d just hold him for the next couple – Brighton home and Burnley away are fine. If he’s back in business, you can then hold him again for Wolves and Leeds in 30 and 31. If not, maybe bin him before that Bournemouth away game in 29
  • Cherki – Yes. Benched in the last two league games.
  • Woltemade – Yes. Has also been benched, and their fixtures aren’t great anyway
  • Frauden – Yes. Congrats to him for finally getting an attacking return. That was also his first one since Gameweek 16. Do not make the mistake I did earlier this season – do not get sucked in
  • Ekitike – No… reluctantly. I understand it will have been frustrating to own him recently, and he’s expensive. I probably wouldn’t buy him right now, but I also wouldn’t sell him just before this excellent four-game run
