Without further ado, let’s crack right on with the good stuff.

Said fixture ticker spat out these attacking fixture runs as the very best of the bunch, heading into Gameweek 24:

Crystal Palace

Surprise! Yes, that’s right – of all teams, it’s early season FPL darlings Palace who have the best fixtures right now.

Unfortunately, they’re rubbish.

James’s beloved Ismaila Sarr is officially back. And, at only 6.3, we should definitely keep an eye on him – if he really is Sarr again, then he’s an excellent budget midfield option. I definitely wouldn’t move for him right now though, with Palace generally being in a complete state, and Mateta trying to escape the sinking ship.

They’re a stay-away for now, regardless of who they’re playing.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth’s attack has been excellent recently, with and without Semenyo.

Since the end of December they’ve scored two against Chelsea, two against Arsenal, three against Spurs, three in the FA Cup against Newcastle, only one against Brighton, but then bounced back with three against Liverpool.

Impressive!

Previously they were really good at home, and terrible away. Those Chelsea and Newcastle returns came away from the Vitality though, so maybe they’ve turned the corner at last.

In short, they’re a pretty appealing FPL option right now… but I don’t actually love any of their players.

Evanilson has been solid for a while now, after letting us all down to start the season. Not that I bear a grudge. He remains pretty hit-and-miss though, blanking in four of his last eight gameweeks. Overall, he’s fine, but I’m not sure he’s that much better than the many other unreliable forwards – I’d probably rather just save the money and go for DCL.

The midfield is riddled with injuries, with Kluivert, Tavernier, and Brooks all injured.

Adli and Scott have both been in decent form though, costing 5.4 and 5.0 respectively.

Adli has started the last two games and returned in both, and has shown multiple routes to points, with a goal, assist, clean sheet, and DefCons – the full house!

Scott is more of a Steady Eddy, hitting 4-5pts the last three weeks. We’ve got loads of those players to choose from already.

Overall then, Evanilson is fine if (like basically everyone) you’re looking for someone who might actually return to pair with Haaland. He’s not as exciting, but I probably prefer Adli if you specifically want a Bournemouth player – his xGI is fine, he’s shown he can actually return too, and he’s averaging a very impressive indeed 11.76 xGI per 90. Pretty enticing, at only 5.4

Chelsea

Yummy yummy. These fixtures really are just delicious.

Joao Pedro, the FPL 25/26 Trolling MVP, is obviously the first option to look at. He’s started every game under Rosenior, and has returns of 8 and 12pts in his last two Premier League appearances.

Can we trust him? It’s tough to, frankly!

He hit a similar hot streak in Gameweeks 2-5, then blanked five games in a row. Then he had another two game hot streak… and promptly put together another five blanks in a row. Then another two games with returns… and another three blanks.

Basically, no – you can’t trust him. If you want to gamble on his combination of form and fixtures, particularly with forwards generally being rubbish right now, that’s fine. But I wouldn’t do it myself.

As for the midfielders, James and I both have Enzo, and I think he’s borderline must-own right now.

He’s returned in four of his last five games, has a ludicrous 0.61 xGI/90, is actually returning too (7 goals and 3 assists so far). His price has risen quickly (unsurprisingly), but I still think he’s excellent value at 6.7.

Finally, Estevao is fun, but we can’t trust him to start.

Just get Enzo.

Liverpool

Liverpool’s attack has been all over the place – both recently, and across the entire season. I definitely wouldn’t trust them as a team, but they do have a few intriguing options.

James and I are both sick of Ekitike, and will almost certainly bin him this week, despite the fixtures. You just can’t trust him to start… which is obviously not what you want for someone who costs 8.8.

In midfield, we have three enticing prospects – Wirtz, Gakpo, and Salah.

Wirtz is in an awkward, in-between price range, at 8.3. It’d be pretty hard to choose him over Mbeumo, for example, at the same price; or spend more on Bruno F; or spend less on Semenyo, Rice, Enzo, and so on.

He’s looked vastly better per the eye test in the past couple of months, and his FPL returns have also been excellent. So, I definitely don’t mind him as a pick… I’d just rather have Mbeumo.

Gakpo’s underlying stats are actually excellent – he’s got a 0.52 xGI/90, and is one of the best players in the league for Shots on Target/90. Unfortunately that’s not much use to us, since he doesn’t actually get many points – 5 goals, despite playing a lot of minutes, and he’s literally got one return since Gameweek 13. No thanks.

Then, we come to Salah.

A little peek behind the Full 90 FPL curtain here – James and I had a one-hour phone call about Salah this week. That’s no exaggeration – we literally talked about him for an hour.

Our conclusion? Maybe. What a productive use of an hour!

Reading this, you’re almost certainly scoffing. And, indeed, James initially brought him up as a joke… one hour later, we were both strongly considering drafts with him in our teams.

To spare your sanity, I’ll summarise.

You can get Salah, and Haaland, and have a very good team. You just have Guiu as your third forward, rotate one or two cheap defenders alongside two good defenders, and have one of the many good midfield enablers (Anderson, Miles, etc.).

But, do you want Salah?

If he’s actually Salah again, of course you do! He’s good for 30+ returns a season, and got 47 last year! My preseason logic was just to have Haaland and Salah, and fill the rest of your team in around them. If Salah is even remotely Salah again, that could work even better than I realised, since there are so many good, cheap players this season.

Unfortunately… we’ve got no idea whether he’s actually Salah again or not right now. He’s played one game. He got 0.87 xGI in that game, admittedly, and an assist… but it’s still only one game.

If we had literally one more week of data, I’d be very tempted indeed to just gamble and go for it. Because, again, you really can build a good Haaland + Salah team right now.

As of right now, however… reluctantly… it would be an incredibly fun, but certainly rash, decision.

See? That was just the short version. Now you can see why it was completely understandable, and not at all sad, for James and I to spend an entire hour of our finite lives talking about this.

Man City

After boring you with my Salah chat, I’ll try to whip through this.

Frauden must go. Even I see this now, and I won’t be lured in by him again. For at least one season.

I wouldn’t really consider any of the other options, except for Semenyo… who is very intriguing indeed.

Pep will undoubtedly Grealishify him eventually. For now though, he’s still actually playing like Semenyo – which we absolutely love, in FPL. It’s working too, with goals in two of the last three games (plus his debut against Exeter, which… doesn’t really count).

And, he’s only 7.8, putting him comfortably below Wirtz, Mbeumo, Cunha et al.

If you’ve got him, you’re obviously holding him.

If you haven’t, he’s very tempting indeed as a high, mid-priced midfielder.

Arsenal

Bleurgh.

I couldn’t care less about the fixtures. Arsenal are terrible at scoring from open play, and playing attacking football in general.

Rice is still fine. I wouldn’t go near anyone else.

If you’re still holding onto Saka, I’d get rid. He’s nowhere near worth his price right now, when you could just get Bruno F for a bit less, or a number of other very good midfielders for much less.

Aston Villa

I magnanimously chose to forgive Morgan Rogers for his early season betrayal of my faith, and he’s done a fine job of rewarding me so far.

As usual, his underlying stats are concerning, with a paltry (considering how attacking he is) 0.3 xGI/90. Again, Enzo Fernandez is averaging 0.61.

As usual, he’s outperforming them anyway, with 12 returns on an overall xGI of 6.79.

So, he requires something of a leap of faith. I think he’s such a good player anyway, though, that I am (and was) fine to take that leap.

None of the other midfielders interest me. Don’t get suckered in by Emi Buendia, even though he’s only 5.3, after one worldie.

My instinct was to say that Watkins is a tricky one. Then I checked his stats.

He’s got 8 goals, plus two assists, and an xGI/90 of 0.54. In his last 10 gameweeks he’s only blanked three times.

I know he’s expensive, at 8.8. But at a time when we’re all casting around for someone trustworthy to pair with Haaland… maybe we should stop overthinking it, and just get the only other reliable forward?!

Best FPL Fixtures Gameweek 24 – Defensive

You’ll be shocked to know that we used the very same beautiful fixture ticker to generate the best defensive fixture runs in FPL, starting in Gameweek 24.

Here they are:

fpl gameweek 24 fixtures-best defensive runs

Arsenal

My crusade for everyone to triple up on Arsenal defenders + Raya has been a real rollercoaster. They keep back to back cleans – then go ahead and concede three goals, at home, to Man U.

I’m continuing to back it. You should continue to have at least one Arsenal defender, and I’d say at least two.

They’re still comfortably the best defence in the league, and these fixtures are very nice indeed.

Chelsea

In stark contrast, I do not trust the Chelsea defence at all – not to actually keep clean sheets, at least.

They were 3-0 up against a terrible Palace team, who were also down to 10 men, and still managed to concede.

Compounding the problem is that there just aren’t any good value options.

Cucurella is very pricey indeed, at 6.0, for a defence you can’t actually back to keep cleans.

Chalobah is the only other nailed starter. Again though, he’s just too expensive – at 5.6 – to actually get him.

As FIFA Peace Prize winner Donald Trump would wittily remark – ‘SAD’.

Bournemouth

I do like the Bournemouth attack. I do not like the Bournemouth defence.

They might have been scoring plenty of goals, but they’ve also been conceding a ton. In the past three months, they have kept one clean sheet.

No thanks!

Crystal Palace

Palace have obviously been rubbish for ages now, and you wouldn’t back them to keep a clean sheet against anyone.

I will take this opportunity, however, to note that Munoz just came back. And if there was ever a so-called defender (who’s basically a right winger), whose returns did not depend whatsoever on his defence being any good, it’s Munoz.

Something to keep an eye on!

Liverpool

This is another pretty easy pass.

Liverpool’s defence has been dodgy for pretty much the entire season, and – after shipping three goals in their last game – that doesn’t show any signs of changing soon.

Man City

It might seem like City’s defence has been a bit up-and-down, but they’ve cleaned five times in their last nine games, which is pretty good going! I’d still have them ranked second (after Arsenal) in sides that I’d actually back to keep a clean sheet.

The challenge – as ever, with Pep Roulette – is who to actually pick.

Guehi is certainly tempting right now. We know he’s a quality player, and he got both DefCons and attacking returns (on a 0.18 xGI/90 – which is ridiculous, for a centre-back) earlier this season with Palace.

I’m not completely sure if we can trust him to start long-term. Gvardiol and Stones will be out for a while yet, and Stones was out of favour even when he was fit. So, I’d guess he holds down the starting spot for the short to mid-term future – particularly since he just got there.

Between the price, and fixtures, and general defensive quality though, I’d be happy to take the risk right now.

And… he’s about the only one I would trust! The full-backs are all rotation risks, and Khusanov has more rotation risk than Guehi, and costs 0.2 more.

Aston Villa

Villa look like a solid prospect on paper… then you look at their actual defensive options, and they become far less appealing!

The centre-backs are cheap, but they’re all terrible when it comes to DefCons/90, and they don’t get attacking returns, so you’re completely reliant on clean sheets.

Digne is a rotation risk, despite his decent attacking potential.

Cash is the most tempting of the bunch. He’s nailed, and has five returns.

His underlying stats are poor though (0.12 xGI/90), his DefCons are terrible (5.67/90), and he costs 4.8 – at that price, I’d rather just have a cheaper defender who can get me DefCons, and has a shot at clean sheets, like Alderete/Mukiele.

Final Thoughts

Well, that’ll just about do it for your first (of two) Gameweek 24 FPL previews.

We’ll be back with some equally-brilliant transfer tips soon enough.
