Greetings all, and welcome to your latest dose of Gameweek 11 preview goodness, courtesy of your pals here at Full 90 FPL.
In this piece, I (Joe) will be dishing out a whole raft of FPL transfer tips, to help get you ready for the weekend. I’ll be following the usual ‘Should I Buy/Sell?’ format, with my targets the most-bought and sold players right now.
It’s all pretty straightforward, really, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun and excitement along the way.
In that spirit, let’s dive straight in!
A Friendly Reminder
I’m sure, as a responsible FPL manager who’s very much on top of everything, that you hadn’t forgotten about the whole AFCON thing.
But, just in case you had!
Remember, you will be topped up to 5 free transfers, heading into Gameweek 16.
So, make sure you spend all of your normal free transfers before then.
Should I Buy?
So, which lucky lads are the FPL public buying in, ahead of Gameweek 11, and should be jump on board any of those bandwagons?
Let’s find out together!
- Mateta – Yes. He’s the most reliable forward in the game right now, apart from Haaland, and he has four good fixtures in a row now
- Rice – Maybe.
For a full and detailed look at Rice, and the other mid-priced midfielders, I’d highly recommend James’s excellent article on exactly this topic.
I, personally, would’ve said ‘no’ up until the last couple of weeks, but I am convinced he’s a startable FPL asset now.
He’s the excellent set piece taker for a team that’s dominant from set pieces, and obviously gets a clean sheet point every week too.
I doubt his production continues at this level, and I’d still rather have Sarr (or Minteh, personally) for less money. And I’d probably prefer to spend my three Arsenal picks in defence/goalkeeper.
But, he’s the second-highest scoring midfielder in FPL after 10 weeks, so it’s hard to argue with him being a good pick at this point. - Gabriel/Haaland – 100% yes, to both. They’re the best players by far at their positions, and are worth every penny
- Caicedo – Maybe.
Again, I’d point you towards James’s full article about midfielders like Caicedo.
Similarly to Rice, I know he’s scored plenty of points, but I do still have some reservations.
In particular, I trust his attacking returns less than Rice’s. He does seem to be pushing forward more this season, so could continue to pick up the odd goal here and there, but I wouldn’t depend on it. He does have a better floor for defensive contributions. He’s hit these four times in 9.5 games so far, and has been fairly close in three other games.
His price is a big tick in his favour, compared to Rice. At 6.0, he’s only really competing against much cheaper players like Xhaka, or my darling Minteh (who I would definitely take over him).
TLDR: don’t expect him to keep racking up this level of points, but at only 6.0 he’s fine value (… but I prefer Minteh). - Mbeumo – Yes, even after a killer blank against Forest. He’s a fantastic player, and has consistently produced over the last three season (even if last year’s 29 returns are almost certainly an outlier). His underlying stats are excellent, and overall I like the fixture run over the next five games. One of the very few midfielders I’d actually spend decent money on, right now
- Joao Pedro – Yes, frankly! And before you roll your eyes at me, I did hold him right through until now, so I’ve put my money where my mouth is!
He could, and probably should have had a hat trick against Spurs. But it was still good to see him getting in excellent positions, and actually shooting (what a novelty). Now he gets Wolves, Burnley, and Leeds in his next four games.
Oh, and if you want to see FPL encapsulated, go have a look at his net transfers. He was binned by roughly 2.75 million players in the four weeks heading into the Spurs fixture. One goal, and now he’s the sixth most-bought player in FPL again.
I love this game.
(Also, for the record, James disagrees with me vociferously about this recommendation. So, other opinions are very much available! - Guehi – Yes. Personally, I’d rather spend the extra money on Munoz (… and I did, just last week), for his attacking potential. Guehi remains an excellent pick though, racking up DC points in a ridiculous 5 of his last 6 games, and this Palace defensive fixture run is very tasty indeed.
- Welbeck – He’s split Full 90 FPL, right down the middle! It’s a ‘yes’ from me (Joe), and a firm ‘maybe’ from James.
I’ve seen enough to think he’s for real this season (until the inevitable injury). He’s in brilliant form, is getting good service from Brighton’s excellent wingers, the fixtures are fine too, and we’re pretty starved for reliable forwards right now.
James is worried about minutes. I am… less so, right now, while he’s in this kind of form. But, he definitely has a short leash – if he does go off the boil even slightly, that almost certainly will be a concern. Between that and the injury history, he’s more of a short-term prospect than a long-term hold. - Raya – Yes, if you’ve got a luxury transfer available, or are wildcarding. I wish I’d just bought him along with Gabriel and Saliba, and tripled-down on this incredible defence, instead of messing around with Gyokores up top.
- Timber – Yes. Ideally you’ll be at least doubled-up on this Arsenal defence, and – as noted – I wish I was tripled-up. Any early season concerns about rotation with him have long-since been laid to rest – he’s absolutely nailed to start
- Sarr – Yes. He’s right at the top of my own wish list, and is definitely one of the best-value midfield picks. Don’t worry about the recent blanks – Bournemouth and Arsenal are tough matchups, and he was unlucky not to score against Brentford. Brighter days are ahead
- Cherki – No. Do not, under any circumstances, get sucked in. We have seen this movie play out so, so, so many times before
Should I Sell?
We have to make room for all these shiny new players we’re bringing in. Unfortunately for them, this means binning off the deadwood.
Let’s take a look at the most-binned deadwood, coming into Gameweek 11.
- Kudus – Yes. James warned everyone off him in the preseason. I was delighted to get one excellent game out of him against Leeds, and promptly binned him after that. He has done nothing to make me regret it since
- Reijnders – Yes. Previously, I would’ve said you can just keep him around, since he’s so cheap. This season, however, we have a ton of cheap midfielders, many of whom are much better than Reijnders. Drop him down to Xhaka, or bump him up to my darling Minteh, Caicedo, etc.
- Woltemade – Maybe. It feels pretty early to be jumping ship for me – a couple of weeks ago he was scoring every game. If you’re only playing two forwards, I’m obviously fine binning him for Mateta, say. If you’re playing three, I wouldn’t rush to get rid of him, since I don’t think there’s many significantly better options available
- Gyokores – Yes. It sounds like he’ll be out until at least after the international break, and he wasn’t doing much for us anyway
- Ekitike – No. Isak isn’t even back in training yet, and – after the City game – Liverpool have an incredible fixture run. I’d just hold, be patient, and only move him when Isak is definitely about to return
- Richarlison – 100% yes. He’s been benched, and you could very easily just move him to Thiago or Welbeck
- Virgil – No. You could bench him for the City game (though he has got DC points in 4 of his last 6 games), but just be patient and hold him for Liverpool’s amazing defensive fixtures thereafter
- Saka – Maybe. His returns have obviously been underwhelming, to put it lightly, despite frequently hitting strong underlying stats. Sunderland away also isn’t the easiest fixture, right now, and Arsenal hardly ever score from open play.
That said, we’ve got so much money sloshing around this season, that – if you can afford it – I’d hang onto him anyway. Between those underlying stats, him being on pens, and his outstanding pedigree of consistency, there’s still plenty of potential here. - Gakpo – No. Again, just hold him for now, and bench him against City if you really want to, but you’ll definitely want him for that amazing fixture run thereafter
- Porro – Yes. I don’t trust Spurs, I don’t like their fixtures, and his returns have been mediocre. I’d one-gazillion-percent prefer to just spend a little more on Munoz, if you want an attacking defender, or drop down to a Guehi at 5.0, for example
- Grealish – Maybe. I doubt it’s a priority transfer, and I’m fine holding him for the Fulham home game, but I’d probably bin him after that. I don’t love the following fixtures, he’s not been returning, and there are so many good midfield options around that price point
- Eze – Maybe. Similarly to Grealish, it doesn’t really feel like a priority transfer. More importantly in this case, however, he is taking up one of your Arsenal spots, which could be spent on Raya/a defender, or Rice, all of whom I definitely prefer to him
