fpl gameweek 7 preview

Full FPL Gameweek 7 Preview - Arsenal Picks, Fixture Runs, Captaincy, & More

Oh ho hoooo, it’s going to be a fun week.

We’ve got people wildcarding. We’ve got people tripling up on Arsenal. We’ve got a number of tasty fixtures.

What could possibly go wrong?!

Never mind that – let’s stay positive, and assume we’re all going to have amazing weeks, and live happily ever after.

In that spirit, here’s your super-positive Gameweek 7 preview. We’ve got fixture runs, transfer tips, captaincy picks, and more!

Your cup well and truly runneth over, fellow FPL nerd.

What You Might Have Missed

This feels like a big week, in FPL Land.

Sure, you could say that about lots of weeks, I suppose. But between the wildcard chat, and the Arsenal fixtures, Gameweek 7 really does feel like a big one!

Here at Full 90 FPL, we’re stepping up to the plate… to mix my sporting metaphors. Hopefully we’ve really hit it out of the park with these pieces:

Pretty Arsenal-focused, I’ll grant you. But:

A) I (Joe) am an Arsenal fan, so I’m not going to apologise for that!

B) We will have some non-Arsenal-focused content coming up soon enough. Including this very piece, which you’re reading right now!

The Midweek Games

The notable injuries in Europe came calling for Liverpool.

Alisson is definitely out this weekend, and might be out for a few weeks. If so, backup Mamardashvili comes in… and he’s only 4.3 right now.  You shouldn’t really get him for Chelsea away, but – if Alisson is out for a while – he becomes an intriguing budget option, especially on a wildcard.

Ekitike also went off injured. We don’t know how bad it is yet, but I’m already pretty low on him, with the uncertainty over his minutes. If he’s out for multiple games, just bin him.

Here are some other FPL-relevant tidbits from the games:

  • Naughty boys Chelsea got yet another red card. Joao Pedro will serve it in the Champions League, though, so he’ll be avaiable against Liverpool this weekend
  • Haaland scored yet another two goals. Pep started his apparently favoured midfield of Doku/Foden/Reijnders/Bernardo
  • Saka scored for Arsenal, and I continue to strongly back bringing him in. Martinelli also scored again, but I wouldn’t trust him to start in the Prem
  • Timber, Calafiori, and Eze were all rested, though Timber and Eze came on. I’d back them all to start against West Ham
  • Gabriel went off with a knock, but it doesn’t sound serious
  • Woltemade scored again, but it was only against Union Saint-Gilloise. Gordon is confirmed as the penalty taker, and scored two here

Best Upcoming FPL Fixtures

One of the reasons lots of people pencilled in Gameweek 7 for their wildcards was the fixture swings. Personally, I thought that was a bit overrated, and will be resolutely holding onto my own wildcard.

That doesn’t stop us, however, from looking at all the best upcoming FPL fixtures, starting with Gameweek 7.

We decided on said fixtures with the help of our very own beautiful and completely free FDR fixture ticker, which you can see for yourself right here.

Best Attacking Fixtures

fpl attacking fixtures gameweek 7

  • I don’t like Arsenal’s attacking fixtures quite as much as their defensive ones… but they’re still pretty damn good. I’ve written about who you should actually get, in detail, here
  • I wouldn’t get Liverpool attackers in just before they play Chelsea away. In fact, I’m using this as my own personal jettison point from Salah ownership!
  • I still don’t really want to get involved with any City attackers apart from Haaland. Foden and Doku might seem nailed and appealing right now, but we’ve seen this show so many times before
  • I really, really want Minteh at Brighton. I just think he’s great, and he’s utterly relentless. I can’t get him right now, since I have to prioritise triple Arsenal, but he’ll be top of my wishlist for Man U in GW9
  • You’re not bringing Chelsea in, before they play Liverpool. After that, Joao Pedro becomes borderline essential with these fixtures. It’d be just lovely if one of their cheap mids could pop as well, like Estevao, but they’d probably have to stop going down to 10 men for that to happen
  • Spurs are all over the shop. If they hadn’t pulled that brilliant performance against City out of the back, I think we’d be looking at them pretty negatively. After a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves (!!!), I’m not backing them against anyone at this moment
  •

Best Defensive Fixtures

fpl defensive fixtures gameweek 7

  • Again, I refer you to my full article on Arsenal (link above). Amongst other amazing analytical insights, I think you definitely need at least one defender, and two – even if it’s expensive – is also pretty tempting
  • Everton’s defence has been incredibly disappointing. They just failed to clean against Wolves (in the League Cup) and West Ham (at home) back to back. No thanks
  • Newcastle’s defence looks fantastic. I still wouldn’t spend on Pope, when you can get Petrovic so much cheaper, but their actual defenders – along with Arsenal – are the best bets in the league for cleans right now
  • You’re not bringing in Chelsea defenders against Liverpool, but hold them for the lovely defensive fixtures thereafter
  • Fulham have been slightly disappointing recently too. Based on recent form, Bournemouth and Newcastle aren’t actually very scary defensive fixtures, and Wolves and Everton straight after is great. It’s more of a ‘hold, don’t buy’ situation right now, however
  • Similarly to their opponents, I’d wait a week on Liverpool defenders until after they’ve played Chelsea away. After that, you get three pretty crap attacks in a row – lovely-jubbly

Should I Buy?

We’re seeing similar names week-in, week-out at the moment, in the most-bought players list.

Basically, we’re all making the same transfers, and have been for weeks. What could possibly go wrong?!

Here are the most-bought players, heading into Gameweek 7.

  • Haaland – Yes, obviously.
  • Semenyo – Also yes, also obviously.
  • Senesi – Yes. His price keeps rising, and he just keeps returning. He’s now returned in four of his six games, is the best defender in FPL, and the 3rd-best player overall. He also has Fulham and Forest coming up, so you’re not too late to get him in
  • Guehi – Maybe. I love him in general, but he’s obviously not going to keep scoring an assist every week. Everton away is a good next fixture, but I don’t love Bournemouth and Arsenal back-to-back after that. In general though, he’s one of the best defensive picks right now
  • Anthony – Yes. He’s just fantastic, and I desperately wish that I had him for 1.4 less than that fraud Morgan Rogers. Four goals already, with the underlying stats to back it up, and he’s only 5.6. He also has Leeds, Wolves, and West Ham in his next five games
  • Gabriel / Saka / Gyokores – Yes to all. Again, see my Arsenal-focused article here
  • Doku – No. As noted above, feels like a classic Pep Roulette trap waiting to happen
  • Sarr – Yes. He’s just fantastic. Easily one of the best mids in the game, for one of the best teams in the league right now, and he only costs 6.4. Excellent pick
  • Gravenberch – No. I still don’t believe his attacking returns will last. I’d much rather have Anthony for the same price
  • Enzo – No. I actually do believe in his production more than Gravenberch, for example. But there’s no way I’d take him over Sarr, for 0.3 more
  •

Should I Sell?

Well, that’s quite a few tasty potential picks. Let’s cast our beady eyes over the most-sold players right now, and see who we’re going to bin to make room for these newcomers.

  • Salah – Maybe. I’m probably never going to tell you to sell Salah… but personally, I’ve had enough for now, he’s obviously nowhere near justifying his price, and I’m binning him for Saka this week
  • Joao Pedro – No. Definitely not. Just hold him for Liverpool, then he has an excellent attacking fixture run. I’m going to be buying him next week, never mind selling him!
  • Wood – Yes. One of the biggest disappointments in FPL this year, and now has three tough fixtures
  • Chalobah/Palmer – Yes – injured/suspended
  • Cucurella – No. Just hold him – like JP, his fixtures get much easier after the Liverpool game
  • Gakpo / Ekitike – Yes, to both. I’m sure they’ll both be fine when they actually get minutes, but I wouldn’t want any part of this rotation headache right now
  • Gyokores – No. Arsenal smash West Ham at home every year. I’m buying him, this week
  • Bruno – Maybe. As with the Fulham game, if he scores that penalty we’re talking about him very differently. I’d probably hold for Sunderland, then bin him for when Man U lose to Brighton and Liverpool after that
  • Isak – No. He’s starting now, and he gets Man U at home after Chelsea, which is one of the best fixtures around right now
  • Mbeumo – Maybe. It’s obviously not happening for him right now. I’d probably try to hold him for the Sunderland game anyway, but I’d be more tempted to bin him than Bruno, since you don’t even get the hope of a penalty
  • Porro – No. Definitely not before Leeds, and his defensive fixtures after that are also very good

Captaincy Corner

There’s actually… a bit of a choice to make this week? Slightly more than usual, at least?

I’m still being boring, and going for Haaland. I don’t think you really need any analysis for that.

If you wanted to be fun and alternative, however, an Arsenal player against West Ham would be your pick. I’d probably take Saka and Gyokores in that order.

And, that’s about it!

We can’t trust any Man U or Spurs players right now, for example, even against Sunderland and Leeds. What a sad state of affairs, in FPL terms… even if it’s quite fun in real life.

Final Thoughts

Well, that’s your lot for this Gameweek 7 preview.

I’m pretty excited for this week. It’s one I had pencilled in – metaphorically speaking, I’m not a caveman – for ages in preseason, as when I would stop being conservative and make a load of moves. Now the fun can well and truly begin. Release the kraken!

Cheers for reading, everybody, and best of luck out there in Gameweek 7.
