fpl gameweek 6 preview

Full FPL Gameweek 6 Preview - Fixtures, Captaincy, Transfers, & More

What a rambunctious Gameweek 5!

We had goals, red cards, comebacks, upsets. What more could you ask for?!

(More points, is the answer. As FPL players, we can always ask for more points).

Regardless, we can’t afford to dwell in the past. We brave, Fantasy Premier League pioneers must keep looking ahead to the future. Which, in this case, takes the shape of Gameweek 6.

To help you get prepared for said future, here’s your fully-operational Death Star of an FPL Gameweek 6 preview.

We’ve got fixture runs, transfer tips, and captaincy picks. What more could you ask for?!

(More content, is the answer. As FPL players, we can always ask for more content).

What You Might Have Missed

We’ve already been busy little bees, previewing Gameweek 6. We’ve done not one, not two, but three whole pieces already!

What are those pieces? Glad you asked, friend.

Since you’re so interested, they are:

Check them out… if you fancy. No pressure.

FPL-Relevant News

Just like last week, we had plenty of footballing action to keep our ever-watchful eyes on, in the past few days.

Here are the main things we actually care about for FPL:

  • Haaland… might be injured? But he probably isn’t? He was always going to be rested in the League Cup anyway. You never, ever know with Pep, but I’m not too worried. Famous last words.
  • Saka and Eze both started. As an Arsenal fan, Arteta drives me mad doing things like this – particularly playing Saka in games when he really shoud be rested. From an FPL perspective, it’s encouraging, and I expect both to start again at the weekend.
  • Isak started, and scored. Ekitike came on for him, also scored, then stupidly got himself sent off, and will now miss the weekend game. I think this is massive, and it mean Isak probably gets the starting role now. I am very, very tempted to bring him in and bin Salah this week.
  • Frimpong also started – another encouraging sign one of the most exciting preseason defenders might be back on the menu
  • Woltemade didn’t start, so is nice and rested for the weekend (albeit with a terrible fixture against Arsenal)
  • Brennan Johnson started, and scored, as he usually does. Simons also started, but I have no feel for whether either of them will – once again – start at the weekend. Richarlison came on, and Kudus wasn’t in the squad, so both should be rested
  • Strand Larsen is officially back and starting again. I don’t like his fixtures at all, though
  • Ndiaye and Grealish both came off the bench, so should be nice and rested – lovely-jubbly
  • Forest managed to lose again, this time to Swansea, and it seems like they’re just rubbish now. Thiago scored twice, worryingly for owners of the struggling Wood

Best Upcoming FPL Fixtures

Yes, yes, we plug it every week. But… we’re proud of it – and rightfully so, I’d say.

What is ‘it’?

Our Fantasy Premier League FDR fixture ticker, of course!

You can check that out, completely free of charge, right here.

I mention said fixture ticker because it’s exactly what we (James and Joe (me)) use to plan all our transfers and whatnot.

It’s also what we used to find the best attacking and defensive FPL fixture runs, ahead of Gameweek 6.

Best Attacking Fixtures

best fpl attacking fixtures - gameweek 6

  • I don’t care how good City’s fixtures are. I still don’t trust any of them except Haaland
  • Liverpool’s situation is similarly messy. I’d probably still hold Ekitike for now, but wouldn’t risk getting him, Gakpo, or Isak in right now
  • We can wait a week on Arsenal, and get this Newcastle fixture out of the way. After that, it’s Saka and/or Eze a-go-go.
  • I like the look of Brighton’s attack, I must say. Like Arsenal, I’d wait a week to get the Chelsea fixture out of the way. After that, Minteh is looking pretty tasty at only 5.9
  • We can’t trust any Chelsea attackers except JP right now. He also happens to be very good though… and I wish I had him
  • Spurs is another slightly messy situation. Kudus seems nailed, and Richarlison has a grip on the striker spot for now. I wouldn’t risk Xavi or Johnson right now though, however good they look
  • I love Bournemouth, but it’s hard to justify any of their attackers apart from Semenyo. Evanilson has been particularly disappointing
  • Wait on Newcastle until after the Arsenal game. After that, their fixtures look fine, and hopefully the attack sorts it out a bit in a week or two
  •

Best Defensive Fixtures

best fpl attacking fixtures - gameweek 6

  • Ooh, wouldn’t it be nice to have an Arsenal defensive double? I’m currently trying to plot my own way in that direction. They look as brilliant as usual at the back, even in tough fixtures, and have a fantastic run coming up
  • Liverpool just keep refusing to keep clean sheets. Even they will struggle not to rack up some cleans, however, with those fixtures
  • Man City are perenially frustrating when it comes to cleans, and I don’t want any part of the defensive rotation
  • Everton’s underlying stats have been pretty worrying. Fortunately they play West Ham next, so we don’t have to care about any of all that!
  • Newcastle have looked very impressive defensively. I couldn’t believe how well they shut down Bournemouth. Wait a week if you like, but I think they’ve even got a decent shot at a clean home to Arsenal
  • Aside from their keeper being a madman, Chelsea’s defence has also looked good. Liverpool aside, all these upcoming fixtures look fine-to-good. I wouldn’t bring anyone in for them, but I’d hold Cucurella, for example

Should I Buy?

Personally, I’ve got a few transfers burning a hole in my pocket, and I’m trying very, very hard not to spend them all for now.

Many other managers are not being so patient. These are the most-bought players, ahead of Gameweek 6, which they’re bringing in by the bucketload.

  • Semenyo – Also 100% yes. He had a quiet game game against Newcastle, and still ended up with 5pts thanks to DCs. One of the most reliable players around, and now plays Leeds
  • Senesi – Yes. Three cleans already, and now plays Leeds, Fulham, and Forest in his next four games. Truffert is cheaper, but Senesi is hitting or getting close to DC’s every week
  • Donnarumma – No. City don’t keep many cleans, and he’s expensive. I’d rather have Raya at that price, or just save money and get Petrovic, for example
  • Reijnders – No. I wouldn’t sell him, but I definitely wouldn’t buy him either. I prefer Anthony at this price for upside, or Caicdeo/Anderson/Xhaka (only 5.0) for DefCons
  • Gravenberch – No. Covered here, but he doesn’t have a history of attacking returns, and he’s not getting enough DC’s
  • Richarlison – Yes. He’s easily the best 7.0 or cheaper forward right now. He’s got three goals already, is passing the eye test, and now plays Wolves and Leeds
  • Guehi – No. I love him as a player, and an FPL pick, and Palace’s defence looks good… but you can’t bring him in before they play Liverpool
  • Ndiaye / Grealish – Yes to both, if you need a mid around the 6.5 price point. I slightly prefer Ndiaye – he’s a bit cheaper, and more of a goal threat
  • Kudus – Maybe. He’s played pretty well, especially last week, but doesn’t look in any danger of scoring a goal. The fixtures are good… just don’t expect a high upside
  • Bruno – Maybe. I think he’s actually played pretty well, for a bad team (tell me if you’ve heard that one before). His next couple of fixtures are good, and – if he’d scored that pen against Fulham – his stats would look a lot different, and we’d probably be more interested in him

Should I Sell?

If you had to be mean, and bin off some of your beloved boys, which would you choose? Here’s how the FPL playing public is voting.

  • Sanchez – No. He serves his suspension in the League Cup, so he’ll be back straight away. And, as always, don’t transfer a keeper unless you have to
  • Salah – Maybe. As an owner, I’m getting increasingly tempted. Personally I’m going to stick it out, but – with various good fixture runs coming up – I completely get the logic in just having Haaland and reinvesting your Salah money elsewhere
  • Wirtz – Yes. Looks like he’ll be rotated for Europe, and he wasn’t returning anyway
  • Watkins – Yes. One million times yes.
  • Wood – No. However disappointing he’s been, you still can’t bin him before Sunderland. You 100% can after that, when his fixtures get terrible
  • Palmer – Yes. This injury has been lingering for ages. Let’s just be patient, and wait for him to string a few games together
  • Gakpo – Maybe. I know he hasn’t been returning, but he’s still getting plenty of minutes for the best team in the league. I’d probably just stay patient, especially since we’re not exactly blessed with high-upside mids this year
  • Gyokores – Maybe. Personally I’d just be patient, hold him for the tough game against Newcastle, and roll him out for Arsenal’s annual demolition of West Ham at the Emirates
  • Cucurella – No. I still think he’s one of the better premium defenders, and I’d expect him to tick along at closer to his first three games than his disappointing last two. He also has Forest and Sunderland coming up soon
  • Mateta – Yes. He’s got four horrible fixtures in a row coming up. You could save money and move him to Richarlison, or get JP if you haven’t already
  • Porro – And, in this week’s completely baffling ‘Why on Earth are people selling this guy?’ move! No. Do not sell a defender, with attacking upside, before he plays Wolves and Leeds. He even has good defensive matchups against Villa and Everton after that. I’d be buying him, never mind selling him!

Captaincy Corner

Well, seeing as I just wrote a whole piece about triple-captaining Haaland… you won’t be shocked to know who my pick for Gameweek 6 captain is!

I’d encourage you just to read the article, for all the actual reasoning. It’s not that long, I promise.

If you haven’t got Haaland, or just want to be edgy and alternative (hey, I’ve been there), I also love Semenyo against Leeds. He’s got five returns already, and they’re one of the best matchups in the league.

In the very unlikely event you haven’t got either of them, just gamble on a goal from Wood or Richarlison, against Sunderland and Wolves respectively.

Final Thoughts

Well, that’ll just about do it for your Gameweek 6 preview.

God, I love the fixtures this week. They’re just mouth-watering. I’ve kind-of already committed to the Haaland triple captain, through my own content. But… this would also be a very, very tasty week for a free hit.

I can’t back out now… can I?

Watch this space. Specifically, you can see what decision I made when our weekly newsletter goes out this Friday.

In the meantime, best of luck out there in Gameweek 6, everybody, and thanks for reading!
