In this FPL Gameweek 24 Preview we will focus in on the doubles and blanks, look at fixture tickers, captaincy corner and my moves. It’s a short should I buy/sell this week as most of it is covered in the doubles and blanks.
Doubles and Blanks
Just because FPL towers are bastards, as soon as I published our gameweek 23 preview, the double gameweek was announced.
Double Gameweek 25 – Luton and Liverpool confirmed
The doublers are now:
| Team | Opponents | |
| Brentford | Liverpool (home) | Man City (away) |
| Liverpool | Brentford (away) | Luton (home) |
| Luton | Man United (home) | Liverpool (away) |
| Man City | Chelsea (home) | Brentford (home) |
Blank Gameweek 26
And the blank teams are:
- Chelsea
- Liverpool
- Luton
- Spurs
Blank and Double Analysis
To maximise points, you want to maximise the number of doublers you have in 25 and to make sure you have 11 players playing in 26. Simple, right?
Well, as always… no.
The Easy Decisions
Let’s start with the most simple. I would not be bringing in any Chelsea or Spurs assets. Richarlison looks like one of the best assets in the game right now which makes this tough. And, I certainly wouldn’t sell him this week if I owned him. But the blank 26 and lack of double in 25 means I think it is a wasted transfer to bring him in. Same with Son who is on his way back after South Korea got knocked out of the Asian Cup.
Now that Chilwell is back, Palmer is off a lot of set pieces. We all know that Chelsea suck (sorry Chelsea fans but look at the table). So, I’m a little nervous about Palmer’s route to points being somewhat diminished. I would hold him against Palace this week but I would be thinking about selling him next week if you need money.
The second most simple, buy Haaland. Many people will look at the City double and think about triple captaining him. Even if you don’t triple captain, you should protect yourself against his effective ownership.
I’d also be looking at tripling up on City. Preferably that is with De Bruyne and Foden. I don’t think we can trust any defences and City is no exception because they just concede almost every game.
The only worry here is that City play on Saturday and Tuesday which is not a lot of recovery time, especially given De Bruyne and Haaland are just back from injury. We see it every year
The Difficult Decisions
Liverpool are tough. Alexander-Arnold doesn’t look fit right now so I wouldn’t bring him in. Equally, I wouldn’t sell before he plays Burnley. As I said above, I don’t trust any defences so buy Virgil with caution.
Salah is still injured and we don’t know whether he will be fit for the double gameweek. If he is fit, that hurts the minutes potential of Jota, Darwin and Diaz and you just want Salah because he is the best.
I still like Jota and Darwin to buy this week ahead of the Burnley game. But buy with caution.
Toney is also a difficult one to buy. He is bloody brilliant and can score against anyone. But, his double gameweek is against two of the best teams in the league.
The Wild Decisions
Luton guys. They have scored eight goals in the last two games. Of course, nobody thinks they are an elite team and their double is super hard.
But, Doughty is only 4.5 and has seven assists over the season; Barkley is only 4.9 and is on three goals and four assists for the season; Adebayo is only 4.9 and has nine goals over the season; and, Morris has five goals and six assists over the season.
Of course, they blank in 26 so you need to consider whether you could get eleven players out that week if you bring in any of these guys.
Hits ‘n’ Chips
So, should you be taking hits or using chips?
Hits are fine. Just make sure you limit them. A -4 or even a -8 over the next two weeks will be fine, if only because lots of other players will do the same.
As for chips, gameweek 25 will be a great opportunity to triple captain Haaland or Salah (if he is fit). There will be other opportunities to triple captain. For example, Bournemouth will play both Luton and Sheffield United in gameweek 28 which makes Solanke a fun alternative choice. And there will likely be a couple more double gameweeks later in the season.
A bench boost might be worth it if your bench is good enough. The biggest benefit of this for me is that you get it out of the way ahead of your next wildcard which you should probably hold to set yourself up for the later double gameweeks.
You might be considering a free hit but you should be wary that gameweek 29 will be the biggest blank gameweek in the game. After Aston Vila got knocked out of the FA Cup on Wednesday night, there are now three games definitely happening in gameweek 29. It will likely be closer to 5 by the time it comes around.

Fixture Tickers
This is a regular stalwart of our pieces throughout the year. We will look at which teams have the best fixtures over the next five gameweeks to help you plan your transfers.
Teams in capitals are home fixtures and teams in lowercase are away fixtures.
Ahead of FPL Gameweek 24 the fixture tickers are looking like this.
Defensive Fixture Ticker
| 24 | 25 | 26 | 27 | 28 | |
| Man City | EVE | CHE/BRE | bou | MUN | liv |
| Arsenal | whu | bur | NEW | shu | BRE |
| Brighton | tot | shu | EVE | ful | NFO |
| Villa | MUN | ful | NFO | lut | TOT |
| Brentford | wol | LIV/mci | whu | CHE | ars |
See above for City.
As for Arsenal, they’re good and always have been. You know who the guys are: Raya, Gabriel, Zinchenko (if fit), Saliba.
Brighton don’t really have any guys. Estupinian is now a rotation risk.
Villa offer good value with Pau and Cash at 4.6. Moreno at 5.1 is great but Digne is close to fitness now and may rotate or take Moreno’s spot.
Brentford suck and these fixtures aren’t that good. It’s just because of blanks in 26 that they make it in this list.
Attacking Fixture Ticker
| 24 | 25 | 26 | 27 | 28 | |
| Man City | EVE | CHE/BRE | bou | MUN | liv |
| Arsenal | whu | bur | NEW | shu | BRE |
| Villa | MUN | ful | NFO | lut | TOT |
| Brighton | tot | shu | EVE | ful | NFO |
| Crystal Palace | CHE | eve | BUR | Tot | LUT |
It’s almost exactly the same!
For City, see above.
For Arsenal it is basically only Saka. Odegaard has been very absent recently so isn’t in my consideration and Jesus is injured. Martinelli is too hit and miss for me at the moment.
Villa don’t really have any trustworthy assets in attack besides Watkins.
Brighton have no attacking assets right now…
And for Palace, Olise is injured AGAIN. Eze is also injured now. So, just avoid them.
Should I Buy?
Ahead of gameweek 24 should you buy these guys?
I really think you should focus on double gameweek players so read the section above. But, if you are already stacked or just love to live life on the edge then…
Richarlison – Yes. One of the best assets in the game right now.
Trippier – He’s just good isn’t he. Great fixtures too. No European football. I’m a little down on Newcastle defence at the moment (like all defences) but they are still probably one of the best. Yeah.
Cunha – He has been incredible the last few weeks. I don’t love the wolves attack but he does look quite good. I’d buy with caution because I don’t think this will last.
Garnacho – Yes. Great enabler, possibly could start him every week at the moment and you might need to if you plan on spending big soon.
Hojlund – Not ahead of Villa. I like the guy, always have but he has 4 goals over the course of the season because Man Utd suck. Avoid.
Watkins – Still a great pick.
Maddison – I love him but just get Richarlison instead and save some money.
Should I Sell?
Ahead of gameweek 24 should you sell these guys?
If you are selling any of these guys to load up on the doublers covered above then ignore this advice.
Gordon – Wait for news but fine to sell as he appears to be injured.
Bowen – He’s great. Now is a good time to sell (ahead of Arsenal) but don’t be surprised if he returns. I’d keep.
Solanke – Hold for this week at least. 25 and 26 are horrible for him but you will want him in 27 as he plays all three promoted sides in a row (double gameweek 28).
Isak – Yep. Sell. Injured and so many choices up top.
Pedro Porro – Think he loses set pieces with Maddo back so fine to sell. Not sure if there is a better defender available but if you want to save money then go for it.
Estupinian – Yeah, the guy doesn’t seem nailed anymore.
Son – Nope. Should be back from Asian cup soon. Why sell if you held him this long?
Saka – Even if you are replacing him with a doubler I think it’s a mistake to sell.
Odegaard – Yep. He’s not looking like doing anything.
Captaincy Corner
I will most likely captain Haaland because he is elite. You could captain Jota or Darwin against a woeful Burnley and have some fun though.
James’ Move
I have two frees at the moment and one more transfer in 25. But, obviously, I have to use at least one transfer this week to get three transfers over the next two weeks.
The key thing is, I’m waiting for news today.
In terms of buying, I know I want to get more doublers. I will probably prioritise De Bruyne (already have Foden and Haaland). That probably means going without Salah.
But, I think it would be fun to get Darwin ahead of Burnley and then just get rid after the double. He’s the kind of guy that could triple return and I like that upside. Jota is safer but he’s not really an option because of the way my midfield is set up.
I’m kind of hoping someone is injured to make my decision about who to sell easier but in my front eight only Odegaard is a problem. I have way too much money tied up in defence with Trent, Estupinian and Porro so probably one or both of the latter too will get the boot too.
That’s it!
Good luck in FPL Gameweek 24! Fingers crossed the FPL gods have a good week in store for you.
