In this FPL Gameweek 23 we are going to focus on the best fixture runs to target.
As you may be aware, there is a bit of a fixture swing in 24 and we are starting to see these teams crop up in our ticker now.
However, the general advice below is not to make moves this week – gameweek 24 opens a lot more routes and having an extra transfer could be helpful.
Anyway, let’s dive in and find out why!
See what I did with that title there?
Unless you have been living under a fantasy rock then you should be familiar with our free fixture ticker.
We have taken those ratings and grabbed the best fixtures for the next five gameweeks.
Chelsea’s fixtures are ludicrously good. But I don’t love any of their options.
Palmer is their best player but he is really expensive and not that good. I personally picked him up in the second round of a re-draft league last week because the upside is huge. However, in ordinary FPL, the risk is quite big too. His minutes aren’t consistent and I don’t expect that to change as I understand Maresca was being told to bench him more and Rosenior probably will bench him more.
Enzo is more nailed but he’s only okay as a pick. I know the underlying numbers are there, and that’s why I own him, but I never really expect a return from him. This week we got a return because the ball deflected off him for god’s sake.
Neto is probably the most nailed winger and other okay option but I’ve never been blown away by his numbers in the years he has played in the PL.
And, Joao Pedro doesn’t play 90 very often and is another one with weak underlyings.
So, what I am saying is that I think these are all fine to pick up but I wouldn’t look to double up. And, I also think it’s fine to not have one if you have better options.
It’s just Rice and Saka who are the picks here.
I think Rice is the better option because he is more nailed at the moment. However, I don’t think Arsenal need Saka for the midweek games and they have Madueke so I expect Saka to start the next two.
Hopefully you own one or the other and are tripled up on this team so I don’t imagine I can tell you anything groundbreaking here.
I don’t mind the fixture this week. Chelsea’s defence isn’t as good as the clean sheets suggest.
But, I’d still probably wait for Sarr to be back from international duty at AFCON. And then get him at a cheap price of 6.3. Or maybe Munoz will be fit by then and you might get some cleans too.
Mateta is also an option but there is transfer speculation there at the moment.
I also don’t mind swerving this team which seems to be struggling with fixture congestion and a thin squad.
If you have Semenyo I think he is an easy hold. From what I understand, he is not eligible for the midweek games in Europe so he should be nailed.
Foden is more difficult. This week the game is so good that I think you can hold him, particularly if you are thinking of moving him to Bruno Fernandes (who plays Arsenal away). But, equally, if you want to sell him I think you can. Probably best to see if we get any news on his injury but I’m okay with selling.
Despite not scoring for what feels like years, Haaland is Haaland and always a good pick.
Evanilson kind of sucks and Kroupi Jr. isn’t nailed enough so, I think the options are Brooks and Tavernier. Both have good underlyings and Tav is on pens.
Without Semenyo and with Kluivert undergoing knee surgery we can’t exactly be sure of who starts and where so wait until tonight to find out.
These fixtures are actually pretty bad for Pool but our ticker is relative so it takes into account the strength of their attack so that balances out.
I think you are fine to hold Ekitike, Szobo or Wirtz but I am not actively looking to buy ‘em.
So, unless you have been living under a rock for the past four months you are probably aware that Arsenal are the best defence in the league. You should have at least one of them already but if not then get Gabriel, Saliba or Timber. Raya is still fine but I don’t love transfers for keepers.
As I said, I don’t think this Chelsea defence is all that. But, the fixtures are incredible so it could be worth an investment in a defender for the next five.
Chalobah is the cheaper, more reliable guy. But, I kind of love Cucurella for only 0.5 extra we get a bit more attacking threat.
Palace’s defence has been a bit hit and miss in the last few weeks. They seem to be struggling with the workload being placed on them.
That’s not been helped by Guehi being sold and the coach coming out and saying he wants to leave at the end of the season after he and the team have been “abandoned” by the management.
So, I think we need to be a little cautious and I prefer the fixtures in a couple of weeks and I hope Munoz is back then.
Another team where I am a bit worried about the team rather than the fixtures.
The back four against United was basically a whole new set. No, Ruben or Gvardiol who are out with injuries. I don’t know why Matheus Nunes didn’t start and O’Reilly is no longer flavour of the month.
They conceded twice to United and it could have been a lot more. They lost that game 2.27-0.45 on xG but there were two or three marginal offsides that could have made it 4-0.
I just don’t think you can spend the money there and you’re better off getting an Arsenal asset.
Bournemouth’s defence is pretty good at home but woeful away. I think that’s how we need to start thinking about them – only play them at home.
Well, maybe Wolves is the exception away and maybe Liverpool is the exception at home…
I just don’t love a move for these guys so maybe wait a week?
I’ve backed Tarkowski since day one and its pleasing to see this is right.
Getting him now would be a good decision. He gets defcons all the time and the Everton defence is reasonable, if not super impressive.
Joe is a big fan of Pickford and I also think he is a good pick at keeper. Someone I would probably consider if on wildcard.
Again, I don’t think I would spend the money on any of these guys over an Arsenal defender. If you want to, then its Virgil and there is nobody else.
So, the fixtures say don’t make a move. Does that work for you?
