FPL Gameweek 10 Preview - Fixture Focus

As the headline suggests, fixtures are the focus in this FPL gameweek 10 preview.

I am going to take a long, hard look at the best attacking and best defensive fixture runs from FPL gameweek 10 and beyond.

But first, lets look at some top talking points from FPL gameweek 9.

Top Talking Points From Gameweek 9

A Terrible Week For Me & Many Others

Gameweek 9 was one for the bin.

If you had a nightmare of a week, you’re not alone – because I’m right there with you.

I scraped a grand total of 33 points, which sent me tumbling from a nice 41k rank to a less lovely 138k. Apparently there are over 12 million managers out there this season, and about 10.6 million of them had a better week than I did. Brilliant.

Does Rank Matter Yet?

I don’t think so. There is still less than 100 points between 3 million and 100k.

So, I say, just relax.

Time to Fuck Joao Pedro Off?

Yes.

At the start of the season, I warned that he was overrated and not worth the hype.

Then, of course, he scored a couple of goals, got a few fluky assists, and I panicked. I sold Mateta for him, he’s practically not taken a shot since.

It’s my own fault for ignoring my instincts and chasing a flash-in-the-pan moment of form. I was worried he was going to be this year’s Chris Wood and with his ownership being what it is it could have been a problem for me.

Anyway. João Pedro is officially on my “to yeet into the sun” list. And it’s an obvious move to Mateta that a quarter of a million people have already made that is top of my mind.

The only reason he’s still in my team is that I’m waiting for the midweek Carabao Cup fixtures before I make the final call.

Is Salah Essential Now?

Did my clickbait subtitle anger you? Good, because you’re right, he isn’t essential. One good performance in nine against a pretty poor defence doesn’t make a premium pick.

I am still happy to ignore him until gameweek 12 or gameweek 13. If Forest still suck then 12 is good, if Dyche has tightened them up then 13 is better.

Should We Still Target Sunderland?

Yes.

They look like defensive rockstars by the xGC numbers, but let’s not get carried away.

They’ve had a relatively easy run of opponents and their fixtures are about to get a lot nastier.

Five Free AFCON Transfers in GW 16

A quick reminder that you get five free transfers in Gameweek 16. D

Don’t be shy about using your transfers before then. If you go into Gameweek 16 with any left in the bank, you’ll just get topped up to five anyway, so use them wisely rather than hoarding them.

Carabao Cup Midweek

I won’t be making any transfers in FPL until after these midweek games and suggest you do the same:

Tuesday 28th October

  • Grimsby v.s. Brentford

  • Wycombe v.s. Fulham

  • Arsenal v.s. Brighton

Wednesday 29th October

  • Liverpool v.s. Palace

  • Swansea v.s. Man City

  • Wolves v.s. Chelsea

  • Newcastle v.s. Spurs

Best Upcoming FPL Fixtures – Gameweek 10 & Beyond

A few of us have had FPL Gameweek 10 earmarked as a good hop on spot for Palace players but let’s see what else the famous Full90FPL fixture ticker tells us.

Best Attacking Fixtures From FPL Gameweek 10

Liverpool

Starting with Liverpool, I don’t really see any options besides Cody Gakpo this weekend. You could be tempted by Mo Salah, but I just think he’s far too expensive for what he’s delivering. Cody Gakpo is delivering probably better for a lot cheaper.

I’d still prefer waiting until Gameweek 12 rather than jumping on now, because I really don’t want to play against Man City away in Gameweek 11. But if you’re desperate or stuck or just looking for a different option, I don’t mind picking up Cody Gakpo this weekend.

Man City

At Man City, there’s no one besides Erling Haaland that I want. I think – I hope – that everyone has learned their lesson from Reijnders so far this season. Nobody at Man City is nailed, and Pep rotation continues forever, so just ignore them.

Arsenal

At Arsenal, Saka is obviously the best pick. Nailed, on pens and open play threat.

I wouldn’t be happy to pick up Gyokeres anymore. I think you’ve missed the boat there (I am on the boat and can tell you it isn’t very good to be on this sinking ship). I’m concerned that Havertz is going to be back after the international break, which is between gameweek 11 and 12.

You could convince me to take Eze. I don’t think we can trust him to be completely nailed all season but with Odegaard constantly injured he seems a shoe-in for the number 10 spot. Even when Odegaard is back, I still think he is the best left wing option.

Brighton

When we turn to Brighton, there’s really only one option at the moment, and that’s Yankuba Minteh. I am always concerned with nailedness in a Brighton team (e.g. Mitoma isn’t nailed), but Minteh seems to be trusted for the time being and he’s got good underlying numbers.

You could take a punt on Welbeck, but I don’t love it. The guy’s never managed a full 38-game Premier League season, certainly not in the last five or six years, and he is ancient at 34 (same age as yours truly, FML).

Crystal Palace

At Crystal Palace, you’ve got Ismaïla Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

They’re both fantastic picks with excellent underlying numbers. I probably don’t need to tell you that the guy who got a hat-trick two weeks ago (Mateta) is a good pick.

Bu, in case you missed it, Ismaïla Sarr has had great underlying numbers for about a season and a half now.

Bournemouth

Don’t buy a Bournemouth player this week ahead of Man City away.

That doesn’t mean you should sell Semenyo if you own him. I’d 100% keep him, particularly if you’ve got a lot of money wrapped up in him.

I don’t think you want to go anywhere near Kroupi Junior because I don’t trust that he’s nailed, although he might take Evanilson’s spot. If you’ve picked him up in draft leagues, I love that, especially in a deep draft league. But otherwise, I’d be cautious.

Chelsea

If you’re looking at Chelsea assets, I’ve just told you to yeet João Pedro into the sun, and honestly, I don’t think there’s anyone I want in their attack right now.

The attack isn’t that good without Palmer and they have too many players for anyone to be nailed.

Maybe Enzo, but I don’t love that pick either. He’s only worth it if he has pens and he won’t have them when Palmer is back fit.

Honestly, I’d rather have Cucurella. He is super attacking in his positioning and gets clean sheet points. Seriously, just watch him sit in the opposition box.

Newcastle

At Newcastle, similarly to Gyökeres, I think you’ve missed the boat on Woltemade because he’s going to start having competition from Wissa after the international break. Plus, I don’t really love their fixtures in a couple of weeks’ time anyway.

I have Anthony Gordon, and I think I’ll probably sell him for Ismaïla Sarr this week. That’s despite a great fixture away to West Ham. The reason is Gordon doesn’t play 90 minutes anymore, and it’s really frustrating to own him. So I wouldn’t advise going there either.

In Summary

I think to summarise all that: I’m looking to buy into Brighton and Palace and probably just hold my Arsenal, Bournemouth, and Newcastle attackers in general.

Best Defensive Fixtures From FPL Gameweek 10

Arsenal

They’re the best defence in the league, and you could pretty much buy them whenever you wanted to, to be honest. The only weeks I’d avoid are when they’re playing someone like Man City or Liverpool.

If you don’t have Gabriel, he’s the number one pick there. Defensive contributions, bonus points, attacking threat – you name it, he’s got it.

If you have Saliba (like me), I think you probably need to correct that mistake and just get Gabriel. Saliba’s been benched at halftime twice now, and I just don’t trust him anymore. Which is ridiculous, because the reason I bought Saliba in the first place was that I didn’t trust Timber or Calafiori’s minutes and there was a rumour about Gabriel’s fitness.

Timber’s probably the second-best pick now, and Calafiori’s the third-best. If you want to double up defensively, I think that’s absolutely fine and probably still good even this late in the good fixture run.

Liverpool

The only guy I’m interested in there is Virgil, and I’m not interested in buying him until after Gameweek 11.After that, the fixture run is really good.

But at the moment, their defence is performing pretty averagely. For the cost of these FPL assets, that obviously isn’t worth it. So, I’m not interested in any of them.

So Van Dijk in Gameweek 12, but not before.

Crystal Palace

At Crystal Palace, you’ve got a plethora of options. The best in terms of attacking output is Daniel Muñoz. These are good attacking fixtures as well, and he basically plays as a winger or inside forward. If you’ve got the money, I like that move, especially since a lot of people will be looking at Mateta or Sarr first and this is a small differential.

Otherwise, you probably already own one of Guehi, Lacroix, or Richards. They’re all good picks, all good on defcons, and they all get clean sheet points. Lacroix is probably the best, Richards is the cheapest, but they’re all good options.

Chelsea

I probably don’t want to buy a Chelsea asset this week because I don’t like the Tottenham away fixture. But the fixtures after that are pretty good.

As I covered above, the guy I’d take would be Cucurella. He gets clean sheet points when they come, and he sits in the opposition box half the time. I don’t understand how he doesn’t get more returns from his positioning, but against teams like Wolves or Burnley in Gameweek 11 and 12, he could have a big gameweek and be that “player of the gameweek” kind of guy.

Otherwise, I think Chalobah is the nailed guy for 5.0, but again, I’m not buying him ahead of Gameweek 10. I’d just look elsewhere for now.

Everton

You obviously have James Tarkowski, but there’s an interesting option now that Jarrad Branthwaite is out for the foreseeable future.

Michael Keane is back on the menu… He’s only 4.5 million, he gets defcons pretty frequently, and obviously he gets the clean sheets when Everton get them. Tarkowski is still the better pick, but 4.5 million for a guy who gets a lot of defcons on a decent defence like Everton with a decent fixture run – I can’t dislike it.

Newcastle

Next, you’ve got Newcastle. Dan Burn is the most nailed thing in the world, so I like him. They’re the second-best defence in the league at the moment by underlying stats. That might be a bit skewed by how they played at the start of the season when they didn’t have a striker and just kept it tight. Regardless, Burn is the safest pick because he’s nailed.

You could look at Botman or Thiaw, but there’s a bit of uncertainty around who plays when everyone’s fit.

Man City

And as for Man City, just like I said before, I wouldn’t bother with their defenders. They rotate too much, and none of them are really standing out for returns anyway – defcons or attacking.

Bournemouth

There’s a decent selection of options. Senesi is a DEFCON beast for 5.0. Or, Truffert if you only have 4.5 to spend and you want a bit of attacking threat. But just avoid them until after they face Man City away. It’s just not worth buying them this week.

Fulham

And at Fulham, it’s a bit of a mystery. We don’t know if Joachim Andersen is fit, and Anthony Robinson is definitely not fit. So there’s not really anyone else I’m interested in besides those two.

If you’re on a wildcard and you don’t know which goalkeeper to pick, you could go with Petrovic, but honestly, I think Leno at 5 million is a good shout. Their fixtures are brilliant right through to about Gameweek 31 and their underlying defensive numbers suggest they should get some clean sheets soon.

In Summary

My three defences to buy this week then would be Arsenal, Palace and Everton.

That’s It.

I hope you found that run through of fixtures and picks ahead of FPL Gameweek 10 useful. Come and tell me why I am an idiot on Reddit.
