Greetings one and all, and welcome to your full roundup of all the Fantasy Premier League news ahead of Gameweek 10.
Two quick plugs, before we get the ball rolling.
Firstly, you can check out James’ comprehensive preview of Gameweek 10 here. That covers the week’s top talking points, players to buy and sell, and more.
Elsewhere, if you’re thinking of dropping your wildcard this week, you can get plenty of advice here. I’ve discussed whether wildcarding now is a good idea, what formation to play, and – indeed – who to actually pick.
Right! With that concluded, here’s all your FPL Gameweek 10 news.
European Roundup
We don’t talk about the European games a lot in general – usually, it’s just in the context of yet more injuries. What happens in Europe can have an impact on FPL though, in good and bad ways.
As such, I’d like to introduce a new feature. When there’s been Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League action, you’ll find a very quick round-up of any notable storylines here.
Champions League
- Gabriel Jesus got a goal and an assist… then inevitably got injured. More on that below. Zinchenko was rested for Tomiyasu. Raya retained his place
- Man U kept a clean sheet, but it was only Copenhagen at home – let’s not overreact to that, nor to Maguire scoring. Hojlund broke his mini-scoring streak in the Champions League, and is yet to score in the Prem
- Newcastle played the usual team, and lost 1-0. Isak went off injured. Willock returned from injury, and could definitely be an option for them following Tonali’s suspension
- Grealish and Nunes started for City, with Alvarez and Bernardo resting (both were subbed on). Foden rested completely
Europa League
- Bowen didn’t start for West Ham, but came on. Coufal didn’t even travel due to injury, which is worrying. Paqueta came on and scored
- Brighton actually kept a clean sheet, their first of the season! But Ajax are a shambles this year, so let’s not read too much into it. JP and Fati both scored, and have a decent partnership, which is bad news for Ferguson. Mitoma played a full 90. Lamptey didn’t travel
- Liverpool smashed Toulouse at home – again, not reading too much into it. Salah was rested, but came on and scored anyway – perfect. Chambers started over Tsimikas at left-back, and Tsikimikas didn’t even replace him when he was subbed. Gakpo returned from injury, played 23 minutes, and got an assist. All four of the forwards are fit now
Conference League
- Villa smashed Alkmaar away. Watkins scored again… but played 86 minutes, which is a bit more than we’d like. Bailey scored again, and Diaby and Zaniolo both started on the bench. Digne and Cash played a full 90. Konsa and Torres rested completely
Injuries (/Suspensions)
Another week, another smattering of new injuries. Let’s whip through the current list of relevant casualties:
- Jesus went off injured against Sevilla. Sigh. On the one hand, it probably makes Nketiah a budget option again (although Trossard has played so well this season, that there’s no guarantee). On the other, it hurts Arsenal’s other attacking assets, especially Martinelli
- Isak came off injured, but Howe says it’s not serious. Wilson will start the next game or two, but we don’t want to go anywhere near this – it’s all too unpredictable
- Murphy went off injured, and will be out for a while. He wasn’t FPL-relevant, but that obviously removes another option from Newcastle’s thin squad
- Tonali’s suspension is confirmed. Shame IRL, but it also makes Newcastle’s lineups more predictable
- Botman is still out. You’re fine starting Lascelles for at least one more week (but don’t bring him in, obviously)
- Coufal missed the European game, but it doesn’t sound too serious. He should be back this weekend
- Akanji is suspended this week for Man City
- Estupinan is doing some training again. He won’t be returning imminently, but we could probably expect him back after the November internationals
- Reece James is definitely back from injury, but probably won’t start this week
- No update on Moreno. Digne is still a fine pick for the foreseeable future
- Hickey is back from suspension
Other Upcoming Fixtures
If you thought we might finally have one week where there were no mid-week games to worry about… think again!
Yes, that’s right. Your favourite competition and mine, the League Cup, returns this week.
Here are the Premier League teams that are playing:
- Arsenal
- West Ham
- Bournemouth
- Chelsea
- Everton
- Burnley
- Fulham
- Man U
- Newcastle
All those games are taking place on Wednesday, so that’s when you should be crossing your fingers and praying to the injury gods.
