Fantasy is back! How we have missed it.
But more importantly, Full 90 is back. This year we will be focusing solely on Fantasy to make it more manageable for us and we will have some great content for you.
GW 1 – What have we learned?
Erling Braut Haul-land – Those of us who went Haaland over Kane patted ourselves on the back whilst Kane owners wept into the arms of their loved ones. Haaland didn’t do much for the first 30 minutes but after his first run earnt him penalty, which he duly slotted away, he brightened up and we saw him trouble the West Ham defence several times and get on the score sheet again. He showed that City can have a traditional striker and proved his value as a premium asset.
We want five! We want five! – It’s no surprise that we want five players from Liverpool. Their rotation isn’t that bad, they score goals and have a great defence. Robbo, Trent, Diaz, Salah, Nunez all seem good. Salah and Trent remain nailed for most of us so the other three are fighting for our final Liverpool spot. Wanting five Arsenal players is not something I expected. Gabriel, Zinchenko, Saka, Martinelli and Jesus are all on my watchlist because they offer such good value.
Darwin v.s. Jesus – Thanks to someone on Twitter for this fun title… It’s usually a fight seen in American politics but the latest evolution (that’s right, I did it) in the battle for our second striker saw a new entrant this week Darwin Nunez put himself firmly on our radar after coming off the bench to score and assist. Jesus looked handy and could have scored but this could be a decision we grapple with for the rest of the season.
And the rest of the league…
Kane you believe it? – Four goals for Spurs and not a single return for Kane. Kulusevski, on the other hand, made a mockery of his price tag. Looks like he isn’t a one half season wonder.
Let’s not be too Rash – Funny that once again we got all the same ‘this manager will fix it all!’ bollocks in the offseason, and it lasted all of one week. United are still bad. But Rashford played a full 90 minutes and had three shots in the box. He could still offer value at 6.5. One to watch or hold if you still own.
Wolves woeful attack – Wolves aren’t very good in attack. If only there was a sign… They continued their poor attacking from last season. But for 5.5, Podence and Neto did enough to stay in our thoughts. Hwang remains a hard avoid.
Less than Sterling – Going forward Chelsea seem a bit lacklustre. No stand out performances from anyone and even old faithful Mason Mount got hooked at 60 minutes. Defensively they looked solid and Reece James kept whipping balls into the box so he is intriguing. Seems a bit dodgy to go with Chilwell or Cucurella given the substitution.
Da best? – Josh da Silva at Brentford looks like an excellent 4.5. One to watch if we want to wildcard into a 433 with Andreas.
Ward-ing away clean sheets – Leicester keeper Ward justified his 4.0 price tag. Leicester defence is bad. I’m still in though. I can’t stay away from a 4.0 starting keeper.
Schar-t the bed! – Fabian Schar made Trippier owners regret their choice as he banged again. Newcastle confidently swept aside a pretty poor Forest side. I’ll be avoiding Lingaard for the time being.
The Bam-ned United – Leeds shocked by not being terrible and defensive. Bamford looked interesting.
That’s Gross – Pascal Gross. Remember when he was good like five years ago!? Well he showed that again against Man U. Trossard and Welbeck also interesting. And they have good fixtures for the next five.
What’s twitter saying?
- Mark Sutherns bemoaned the rise of analytics whilst his pod partner Az criticised the critics.
- Pingreen goes for a more wholesome message.
- Andy of Let’s Talk FPL noticed that Haaland isn’t guaranteed pens.
- Hindu Monkey provides a light-hearted view on GW 1.
GW 2 – what next?
We will do a preview but right now there’s one question on a lot of people’s minds. What do we do about City v.s. Bournemouth?
Bringing in Haaland might be too much for you with the price changes already dropping Kane to 11.4 and pushing Haaland up to 11.6. I’d be tempted to take a hit, even this early on. But tradition dictates that we wait until after GW2 and enjoy a ‘mini wildcard’ of three moves for a minus four.
Keep your eye on price changes here in case you want to make an early move. Prices tend to swing quickly at the start of the season.
Personally, I’m looking at Mount. He’s currently the problem child of my team and transferring out your biggest problem is usually a good tactic. But with no mids below 8.0 taking my fancy (apart from Martinelli who I already own) I will probably end up holding. I was thinking about downgrading to Grealish at 7.0 but the editor watched the game and told me that he was a bit absent which has made me scared of Pep Roulette. Watch this space.
It’s a Saturday deadline so try to hold those knees until the weekend!
