fpl tips - gameweek 33 preview

Joe and I are both coming off the back of several green arrows, coming into this preview for FPL Gameweek 33. We’re pretty hot right now, and looking to keep the good times rolling.

It is a tight turnaround this gameweek, with a TUESDAY DEADLINE!!!!! This isn’t a double gameweek in FPL, but all eyes are on the upcoming fixtures and doubles, which makes our moves a little more obvious.

In this gameweek 33 preview, we look at Arsenal before focusing in on fixtures and the usual should I buy/sell.

Let’s go!

The Arsenal Dilemma

We all know the Arsenal fixtures are hard. To the end of the season, they play:

Much to Joe’s dismay, we don’t see Arsenal winning the Premier League anymore. But does that make them bad FPL picks?

Well, the defence is bad. Maybe not ‘bad’, but not as good as they used to be. With Saliba still injured they don’t look as solid. They don’t concede loads, but they do frequently concede at the moment.

In attack, Jesus has been on fire but, of course, couldn’t score against Southampton last week.

The midfield of Saka, Martinelli and Odegaard have been stalwarts of our FPL teams all year.

Many of us have backed off tripling up in recent weeks, with mixed success. But I still think most engaged managers have one or more likely two Arsenal players.

The question on my mind is, should I move Saka out for Rashford? I currently own Ben White too, but feel fine about benching him this week. Rashford appeals because he has been incredible this calendar year, and United play against Spurs who just shipped six goals against Newcastle… plus United then double in 34 and 37.

Rashford just played 120 mins in the FA Cup semi-final. So, we know he is now fit to play, but is he fit to play 90 mins this week? That’s the key question. Because, I don’t see anyway how Rashford doesn’t outscore them all to the end of the season, particularly without European football anymore. He/they also play on Thursday, so I’m feeling pretty good about that.

If I had Jesus, I would be having similar thoughts about Jota or Isak. Over the next two gameweeks I think the latter will outscore the former. It’s just a question of whether you move now or later.

Speaking of European Football…

It is only Man City and West Ham that play European football to the end of the season. There are no more cup games either, apart from the FA Cup final which is played at the end of the season.

This means we can be pretty confident about most teams playing full strength squads.

That’s at least one thing that we don’t have to worry about any more.

The Final Fixtures

The upcoming fixtures are finally finalised in FPL, after weeks of uncertainty.

The Fixture Ticker:

With only six FPL gameweeks to the end of the season, and all the fixtures settled, it’s time to stop looking at the next five and look at all the games to the end of the season.

So, basically, if you have your wildcard, still just pick all this lot. They are all great teams.

Hits, Hits, Hits

Before we get into the usual should I buy/sell, just a note on hits.

Hits are okay if you are making medium/long-term moves. In theory, that might make taking a hit this week a good idea.

Just remember to always factor in, that the player you hit in has to get a return for you to even out the cost of the hit.

Should I Buy?

Haaland – Yes. Get him back in if you sold.

Rashford – Yes. He’s back and fit and incredible.

Diogo Jota – Great fixtures – just be prepared that you might be buying last week’s points.

Grealish/De Bruyne – These are not my favourite picks ahead of a (theoretically) tough game against Arsenal, but good fixtures after that. Prefer Grealish, as he is a better price. You really pay through the nose for De Bruyne because he is more nailed, but even he isn’t 100% nailed at the moment.

Isak – Yes. Just be prepared for him to play less than 180 mins in the double.

Alexander-Arnold – Yes. Great fixtures.

March/Mitoma/MacAllister – Yes. Great fixtures.

Dunk/Estupinian – Prefer the former for guaranteed minutes.

Watkins – No, I’d probably focus on a player that doubles in 34 now. Hold him if you have him.

Salah – Yes. Great fixtures, great player.

Shaw – Not my favourite pick. Spurs can score this week, and both Villa and Brighton can score next… Still good though.

Bruno Fernandes – No. Even with the fixtures, I just don’t think he is worth the money.

Should I Sell?

Kane – He’s so reliable, and is fixture-proof. They just got hammered 6-1, and he still managed to score. I wouldn’t sell him this week unless you really needed the funds.

Toney – Fine to sell for a 34 doubler. But Chelsea are not good, so he can easily score.

Saka/Martinelli/Odegaard/Jesus – Covered above.

Maddison – Sell him. 100%

Watkins – Fine to sell for a doubler, but not a priority this week.

Mee – Yes.

Gakpo – I don’t see how selling him is a priority.

Gabriel/White/Zinchenko – Fine to sell, but I just plan to bench White because he is cheap.

Captaincy corner

I think Haaland is the logical choice. Even in a tough fixture. He has proved himself fixture proof.

Salah could be an option, but I wouldn’t go there personally.

Final Thoughts

That’s it for this week. There will be yet another quick turnaround coming up, with Gameweek 34 kicking off straight after this one, at the weekend. Joe will be back with more FPL tips and advice for that one.

As always, don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and tweet at us about how great we are (or not).
